What To Do With Resentment and Suffering

According to the Big Book of Alcoholics Anonymous, resentments are the number one offender in creating conditions for relapse in a person recovering from alcoholism. For all people, resentment and self-created suffering (things like negative self-talk, rumination, etc.) are troublesome. For the person in recovery, these things can be potentially life threatening.

Approximately 88,000 deaths per year in the United Stated are attributable to excessive alcohol use. Another more than 64,000 deaths per year in the U.S. are linked to drug overdose. This massive loss of life is preventable. For a person trying to live a life of sobriety, managing resentments and needless self-created suffering can potentially help in preventing relapse and in turn help save their life.

The good news is that there are concrete strategies to manage and move beyond resentments and self-created suffering. Check out the infographic below for some ideas to get you started.
